Black President?
The 2008 Presidential election will make history one way or another. The Democratic party is down to two choices, a woman or a black man. While I know Hillary Clinton was the First Lady do we want the same old political schtick, or a real change. Barack Obama is change. He is a change from the same cookie cutter politicians we are used to. He also represents progress for America. Hilary also represents progress to a point but it would be window dressing. Hilary is still one of those cookie cutter politicians, the only difference is she is a female version. Some 40 odd years ago America went through it's Civil Rights Movement. This should have removed all the barriers for African-Americans and yet Africa- Americans still can't envision a black man as President. African-Americans are still somehow being "held back". Mr Obama would remove those last barriers that many African-Americans hold onto. We consider America to be less progressive than South Africa. In 1989, South Africa openly practiced an extreme form of racism known as Apartheid. Under Apartheid blacks were jailed, beaten and tortured with full government sanction. In America there was no legislation that legally supported racism, yet African-Americans could not envision a black man in the White House. In the 1994 elections in South Africa, Nelson Mandela was elected President. A mere 4 years after apartheid was dismantled The South African people elected a black President. Not just black, but a former prisoner under Apartheid. In South Africa blacks see no impediment to aspiring to the country's highest office. In America for all of our freedoms a black child will not aspire to become President because he believes that he has no chance. It is time for America to move forward and shatter this last barrier. It's time for all Americans to be able to aspire to the same dream, instead of limiting themselves because of perceived barriers. Mr Obama will bring that change. Mr Obama as President will show that America is not racist and is indeed still the land of opportunity.

Personally, I look forward to ethnicity becoming an internal pride matter vs subject matter media use to exploit the public and/or redirect attention from more pressing issues. Michael Moore stated that when ever crime is down; media automatically pushes news media relating to minority crime to hype the public to spend money on security related items.
