New business ethics Are business owners updating their ethics to reflect the need for information security? It really does not appear to be so. In 2007 there were 312 security breaches, 265 of those occurred in the U.S. Every time a record is breached it puts those people at risk of identity theft. I have spoken to business owners who actually have a "so what?" attitude. They figure if they get in trouble for a breach they will close the business, change their name and reincorporate with a different identity. All business owner's need to think about this. You have personal information of your clients and employees that you are responsible for. Don't try to protect the information, allow the people keeping you in business to be victimized, go for it. If you have a "So what" attitude you need to mull over this fact. Just remember, you are someone's client. They have your personal information. And you don't have a monopoly on the "So what" attitude. Someone who holds your information has the same attitude. When they irresponsibly lose the information you have entrusted them with, YOU will be the identity theft victim that could have been avoided.
